Play is the work of a child

To Achieve Our goals, MECEC

At MECEC, play is the approach we take to learning and growing. It can be structured and focused, such as a group activity with a purpose in mind; or it can be free and solitary with open-ended possibilities. Whatever form is takes, play is always a hands-on discovery approach to learning and growing. Children learn best while playing and play while learning.

Through play children learn about themselves and the world around them. It provides children with the opportunities to try on different roles, to interact and cooperate with others, to experience feelings, to develop their imaginations, to reason and make choices, to solve problems, to exercise all those growing muscles and to simply delight in the wonders of their surroundings. Play is hard work!

Curriculum/Program Goals

MECEC maintains an affiliation with the Astor Learning Center using the High Scope Curriculum and the fundamentals for best practice in Early Childhood education.

MECEC believes that children learn best about themselves and the world around them through the act of play. Through play, opportunities arise to try on different roles, and interact and cooperate with others. Play allows for the experience of feelings, imagination, problem solving and the building of communication skills.

Through play, learning and growing take place in structured, focused and purposeful activities or through spontaneous, sometimes free and solitary activities allowing for open-ended possibilities.
